Class Mbappe scores superb goal despite alarming lack of depth on show from PSG

Kylian Mbappe helped an injury-stricken Paris Saint-Germain move 12 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win over Saint-Etienne on Sunday.

The 20-year-old volleyed home the winning goal on 73 minutes to take his league goal tally to 19 for the season.PSG are missing star forwards Neymar (foot) Edinson Cavani (thigh), while Marco Verratti is nursing his way back from an ankle injury.

Despite their injury issues, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has refused to play contract rebel Adrien Rabiot, who is reportedly set to join Barcelona on a free transfer this summer.

Tuchel’s lack of options saw him show his thrifty side – not something you associate with modern-day PSG – by naming just six substitutes against Saint-Etienne.

But that did not affect his side thanks to Mbappe’s heroics.

It is the France international’s second goal in as many games after he was on target in PSG’s Champions League last-16 first leg win over Manchester United last week.

With Neymar and Cavani sidelined, PSG will need Mbappe fit and firing in the forthcoming weeks.
